Michael W. Carlton, M.D., is an internist and pediatrician specializing in addiction medicine in Phoenix, AZ. He has detoxed tens of thousands of people in both inpatient and outpatient addiction medicine settings and has helped thousands more win their long-term battle against addictive disorders.

Dr. Carlton is the President of Accredited Internal Medicine and of Phoenix Recovery. He is the consulting Medical Director for Gatehouse Academy, a one-year residential treatment program for young adults suffering from chemical dependency. He serves as the Medical Director for Community Bridges and the Chemical Dependency Units at St. Luke’s Behavioral Health Center in Phoenix. Dr. Carlton is also an Associate Professor for the Maricopa Psychiatric Residency Training Program in Phoenix.

After attending medical school at the University of Arizona he completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric residency program in Phoenix. Dr. Carlton trained in the Medical and Industrial Toxicology Fellowship program through the Samaritan Regional Poison Control Center, also in Phoenix. It was at this time that he began working in the field of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Carlton received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona.

Dr. Carlton has published numerous articles and book chapters in biomedicine and toxicology. His research has been published in several leading journals, including Journal of Toxicology - Clinical Toxicology, American Family Physician and Academic Emergency Medicine. Dr. Carlton has spoken through the United States to thousands of people about addictive disorders and the treatment of persons suffering from them.

He is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and licensed by the state of Arizona and the Drug Enforcement Agency. He also serves on the board of the National Institute on Chemical Dependency.
