My parents were total 'bores'; they never let us do anything "fun" like drinking with our friends at parties. As a result none of my siblings have ever struggled with alcohol use or abuse while many of our friends are in re-hab and one is dead. The one who passed away was killed by his own brother during a druken argument over the care of their aging father. The brother then killed himself. So, now, thanks, DAD - you may be boring, but, we're alive, well and happy.
